Fortune is a mining entrepreneur with a desire to see Africa convert its enormous mineral resource base into economic value for its people. He believes that Africa has everything it requires to be the global center for mineral resource development and beneficiation.
His entrepreneurial journey began as a B.Sc. Actuarial Science student at the University of Cape Town (UCT) where he started his very first business venture, Student Enterprises Trust, with the sole purpose of developing and promoting entrepreneurship among tertiary students in South Africa. He then moved on to McKinsey & Company where he worked as a consultant, tasked with advising clients from numerous industries on corporate strategy and organizational development.
In 2006, Fortune co-founded, with business partner Anthony Viljoen, VM Investment Company, a principal investments and corporate advisory company targeting key growth sectors of the African economy. In addition, VM Investment Company has interests in several junior mining ventures as well as the minerals processing industry, through MRT Group, a specialist alloys-manufacturer based in South Africa.
VM Investment Company was the launching pad for Bushveld Minerals established in 2012, where Fortune has been the CEO since inception and has led the growth of the company with its bold ambition to be the world’s most significant, low-cost and vertically integrated primary vanadium company.
